914-6 Engine Tear Down Day 2 – Short Block

On our second day of tear down, we got to the short block. Meaning access to block, crankshaft, rods, and pistons. No major surprises, which is great. The parts we’re finding appear to be authentic Porsche parts, except the pistons.

If you’re going to remove your own case studs, the Snap-on stud pulling tool is great when used with an impact wrench. Given what some shops charge to remove head studs, it pays for itself pretty quick. It’s still work, but I found it very satisfying removing the studs from our case.   • Stud Collet Housing (CJ500-1) formerly CG500
  • M10-1.50 Taper Collet (CJ500-43)

While not completely necessary, the Stomski 911 Engine Case splitter is a nicely crafted tool that takes some hassle and worry out of the task.
