The 914 was voted the “Import Car of the Year” in 1970, despite complaints that it was under powered. Some have argued that the 914 wasn’t a “real Porsche”. It was in fact a joint development between Porsche and Volkswagen and was labeled “VW Porsche”.

The six cylinder model 914/6 was a slightly different and rarer beast, with only 3,338 units produced between 1969 and 1972. The 914/6 had the 2.0-litre engine with 110 hp from the Porsche 911 T. The ignition lock was located to the left of the steering wheel, where it is typically found in Porsche vehicles. The 914/6 was built by Porsche at the main plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen.
