Porsche 356 Crankshaft and gears

Gears on Crank

After a couple attempts, I was able to get the cam drive gear on the crankshaft. I thought I was being clever using a toaster oven to heat the camshaft drive gear. It went to 400 degrees F and was small enough to take in the garage so the gear would be close to the crank while still hot.

After two failed attempts to get the gear to drop down into place, I grabbed a propane torch out of frustration. Plink it went right into place.

A note on bearing installation. For Super 90 and 912 the number 3 main bearing gets installed into the case. Not on the crankshaft.
