While the Engine is Out

I started compiling a list of things to do while the engine and transmission are out of the car. Ease of access can sure simplify things. What I discovered is “let’s just rebuild the engine” and get it on the road has become quite a project!

I came up with a pretty lengthy list. I’m sure it will grow / change:

  1. Plastic fuel lines – replace
  2. Fuel line secure and protect per recall 9J
  3. Fuel line replace cloth with rubber – replace
  4. Engine mount – replace
  5. Transmission mounts – replace
  6. Clutch, pressure plate, flywheel – replace
  7. Clutch cable – replace
  8. Accelerator cable – replace
  9. Fuel pump relocation related to TSB P213 on vapor lock This was primarily a 914 issue.
  10. Voltage plate cover per recall 9K
  11. Rear wheel bearings
  12. CDI – refurb
  13. Shocks – eval
  14. CV joints – inspect / replace
  15. Fuel pump – eval. Turns out we didn’t even have one.
  16. Heater hoses – eval
  17. Rubber, including grommets, engine bay seals, etc.
  18. Brake pressure regulator
  19. Hard brake lines
  20. Cables if needed: speedo, tach

There is more that I will do in the name of safety and reliability, but these are the ones that should be easier with the engine out of the car.
