Pipe Bed
I built a bed frame several years ago, based on a design I saw in a magazine ad. It's made of aluminum pipe and Kee Klamp fittings. It's been very sturdy and comfortable. I like to call the style Modern Industrial. It has been blogged about by Phillip Torrone on MAKE: Blog. If you'd like to learn how to build your own, I've posted instructions for how it was done on the Instructables web site. You can also buy a kit from Simplified Building Concepts for not much more than it costs to buy the materials yourself. It includes pre-cut pipe, fittings, instructions, and even the wrench.
